Northern Shrike carrying its prey, a lifeless Dark Eyed Junco bird filmed on November 20th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its relative, the ''Loggerhead'' Shrike was dubbed that way because it used to closely follow loggers in the forests across Canada for scrap meat. Although harmless in appearance the Shrike is a ferocious predator that feeds on other small animals, sometimes impaling them on a tree branch for a better grip while feeding.
