Male mallard duck fighting off intruder trying to mate with his female

Not uncommon in the world of waterfowls, forced and sometimes even aggressive mating is nonetheless an unusual and disturbing sight. The mallard duck (Anas Platyrhynchos) which is one of the most widespread water birds, is quite known for this type of violent behavior. In this scene, a female mallard is lucky to escape alive after an intruding male tries to force copulate with her. In an endless battle, the male paired to the female is trying with great efforts to fight off the aggressive other male. In the end, the female escapes with her life after nearly drowning during the battle. Violent acts of a sexual nature like this occur in the wild as desperate animals will sometimes use whatever way to mate and ensure that they reproduce.
