At 5h30 am Thursday morning January 6th 2022 a devastating fire broke out at the sole and only hotel in the small municipality of Matagami in Northern Québec, Canada. Guests and staff of the hotel evacuated safely as fire spread in the early morning hours today. Fire grew and eventually took down the entire building, sending raging heavy flames and thick dark smoke plummeting in the cold winter sky. Firefighters worked relentlessly under frigid -30 degree Celsius temperatures (-22 Fahrenheit) to save the 1964 building from fire damage but it was deemed a total loss.
