Horrific and silent death for a man in his sixties yesterday in Brossard, a city on the south shore of Montréal, Québec, Canada. In this very rare intervention, a victim suffered CO poisoning that left him unconscious when found by emergency crews who performed CPR resuscitation techniques. The man who was transported to hospital where he was later declared dead is believed to have been located in the underground parking garage of a residential condo building at the corner of Lennon Street and Londres Street in the area of the Cartier 10-30 shopping town. The accident happened at 3h pm local time when all emergency services gathered at the address urgently. Two large apartment towers were evacuated by occupants while firefighters and paramedics attended to the victims. Two SPAL police officers who arrived early on scene and rendered aid to the patient were accommodated by the carbon monoxide leak inside the structure. and were transported to hospital along with a fourth patient, a resident in his 40's. All three additional victims suffered non life-threatening injuries and were released from hospital already. Carbon monoxide CO poisoning occurs when a source of combustion like a burning fire or an ignited car with a turning motor produces CO which replaces the oxygen in the air. When breathing this contaminated air in an enclosed space, a person inhales these particles as the oxygen replaced by carbon monoxide slows down the body system and eventually shuts it down with minimal effects or symptoms. This happens quietly and is impossible to manually detect due to no sign or smell hence the importance of having a CO detector in a home as well as a smoke detector.
